To do a cooling system refresh, or to not do a cooling system refresh... [updated]

That is the question! I have less than two weeks until my big overland trip in the Wagovan. While things are falling off the TODO list nicely, many items still remain. The biggest question in my mind at the moment: should I replace the cooling system.

All the hoses and pipes look fine and the coolant is nice and green. I have no reason to suspect a cooling system problem.

That said, I have no history on the system and I have all the parts to do the refresh. The only hose that look like it’ll be a pain is the lower radiator hose, which appears to need a skid plate removed to get at it.

I did, however, just “relocate” the coolant expansion tank and sort of feel like now is the time.

That said, I have other stuff to be working on so... maybe just leave it?

What does Oppo think?

[update] I went for it.  The skid plate was easy to take off.

Weren’t you a little stressed a few days ago about how much stuff you have to do on this thing? Why add to it? If you’ve inspected all the hoses and they look fine, I’d say don’t fix what ain’t broke (but maybe bring along a spare hose or two).

I would take the hoses with you to cover yourself if something breaks.

This was m y thought as well. It ain’t broke yet, so if you have all the spares with you you’re good to go, assuming you don’t mind stowing them.

If you replace it all and something decides to go sideways on the trip, you'd be more boned than had you not touched it at all.

I suppose you plan to reverse-flush the heating radiator too... right?

Does your set a l s o include the heater hoses?

I just did mine because the water pump was leaking on the rover. Replacing t he hoses took most of the time and were generally a PITA. It’s on e of those projects that seems simple but is actually a lot of work.

That being said I feel a lot better that the system isn’t leaking and I know all the hoses and clamps are new.

I mean... I wasn’t going to, but since you said it I did it.

Yes as far as I can find I had everything in the engine bay excluding the hose between the heater control valve and the firewall, which I replaced with a generic. Someone deleted my bypass hose which is... a  thing.
